Disability protects your income by providing an income replacement benefit if you are injured or ill and unable to work. Short Term Disability (STD) and Voluntary STD are available to employees. Benefits vary by class.

 

Long Term Disability (LTD) Pre or Post Tax Options:

Trinidad Benham is pleased to offer employee owners the choice of LTD Pre-tax Premiums or LTD Post-Tax Premiums.

Tax is either paid on the lower premium cost or the full disability income, at time of claim. To clarify, the premium cost of the disability plans will be added to your gross income, and that same disability premium cost will be deducted from your payroll post-tax. This means the disability premium is added and then deducted from your paycheck, and you will pay the minimal tax on the disability premium in exchange for post-tax benefits at the time of claim. If an unexpected, qualified accident or injury happens, you will be in a position to greatly benefit from tax-free disability income!

If you do not make a selection, the default option will be a LTD Pre-tax Premium. Please make sure to update your preference during Open Enrollment.

Here are your options:

• LTD Pre-Tax Premium (default): Trinidad pays 100% of the LTD premium on your behalf and you are not taxed on the premium paid. Benefit paid at the time of a qualified claim would be 100% taxable to you.

• LTD Post-Tax Premium: Trinidad pays 100% of the LTD premium on your behalf and you pay the tax on the LTD premium. Benefit paid at the time of a qualified claim would be tax-free to you.

Life insurance provides a death benefit payable to your beneficiary. Benefits vary by class.
